In all my learning about bread and baking, I really want to make sourdough. I found out that first, I had to get a starter. After doing some internet research, I read that it's easier to make sourdough from an established starter,( which may be true-but it's a lot less fun) so I sent away for a free bit of dehydrated starter from the Friends of Carl-check it out, it's pretty cool. However, I think in my haste and excitement I was unable to revive Carl's starter. I think if I'd waited a little longer it might have started bubbling but after a few hours I had nothing. So, I decided to start my own and it has been SO fun! I used a commercial yeast, which is a no-no for sourdough purists, but since this is my first time, I figured I could compromise. It bubbled and frothed for a couple days on the counter and on the third day I left it uncovered over night. I woke up and it was covered with a brown skin, which I scraped off and threw away. Turns out that was my first rookie mistake, I could have just stirred it up and my little yeasty-beasties would have eaten it. After that, it started to produce "hooch." It's now happily living in my refrigerator, waiting to be made into a sponge-and then into a dough. It gets a nice meal every week and has been bubbling away nicely. No wonder it's more expensive than the average loaf of white bread.
I want to name it---but I need to come up with something clever-maybe something Egyptian, since that's the origin of sourdough...any ideas?

I suppose "Bob" would be too obvious considering one of the stages you're hoping for...how about Scooby dooby Dough...or "Yo, That's alota" Or "Apple" (as in sour)
Way to go! I'll keep thinking on the name.....
